The CIOA (Carrot Improvement for Organic Agriculture) project: location, cropping system and genetic background influence carrot performance including top height and flavour

    Resource Description

The Carrot Improvement for Organic Agriculture (CIOA) Project is conducting field trials on diverse carrots to address U.S. organic farmers’ priorities, such as improved seedling germination, Alternaria leaf blight and nematode resistance, and consumer preferences for flavor and nutrition. The trials, which include a wide range of carrot types and are conducted on both organic and conventional farms across multiple states, have revealed significant variation in canopy sizes, root colors, flavor profiles, and disease resistance among the genetic stocks evaluated.
